Humidifiers for Better Air Quality
Whole-home humidifiers are superior to portable units. Our systems consistently provide your target RH throughout the entire home. Another issue with portable systems is that they can be inconvenient. You have to keep filling them up with water. Otherwise, they’ll stop working. This isn’t a concern with a whole-home system. We’ll connect it to your home’s plumbing so that it gets all the water it needs automatically.
Our team recommends annual maintenance, which you can schedule alongside your heating tune-up. Our technicians will clean the system to ensure it’s sanitary during the winter ahead. We can correct any minor wear and tear to maximize the life of the system. Repairs are also an option, such as if the humidifier fan stops working.
If installing a humidifier, powered and bypass are your two core options. Furnace humidifiers and other bypass systems don’t have fans and, instead, rely on the heating system. Powered systems have a dedicated fan, which means they can run even when the heating system isn’t. Which is better for you depends on the size of your home and the scope of the humidity challenges you face. Another choice in this regard is steam versus evaporative. Evaporative systems are typically cheaper. Steam systems are generally more efficient and effective.
What about humidity control? We’ll generally recommend upgrading to a smart thermostat with a humidistat. That way, you’ll be able to control temperature and humidity from a single interface. With smaller-scale systems, some have an automatic adjustment feature. We can set the unit, for instance, to 30% RH. It will then just maintain that setting at all times.
There are many potential health benefits from whole-home humidifiers:
- Easier breathing
- More restful sleep
- Better cognitive function
- Heightened energy levels
- Illness prevention
